AI Driven Shortages are Hurting Affordability

Updated 3/2/2026 to reflect another 20% jump in SD card prices.
Manufacturers are moving their production capacity from creating the kind of less expensive memory we use in our devices to more complex memory for AI use cases. That's putting a pinch on memory supply, and driving prices up very rapidly.
Just this week, Raspberry Pi was forced to raise prices $10 per unit on our core component (the underlying computer that powers a Prepper Disk).
More severe, is the increase in the micro SD cards we use. They've risen almost 100% in just the last 30 days, with 512GB cards now sitting at $80-$90 and (possibly) still rising.
While we've absorbed some of these costs, and (along with the rest of the market) hope they return to "normal" - we're forced to increase costs or discontinue offering the device. It isn't a decision we take lightly , as we've always strived to have a a device that is accessible to all (globally!).
On Wednesday, February 4th 2026 we will be raising prices to reflect the new costs that we are paying for supplies. When (if?) prices come down we look forward to restoring to to our $199.95 price for the Premium.
